Daily program: Enduro adventure: Thailand & Laos!
Day 1: Chiang Mai - Mae Malai
We will personally pick you up at Chiang Mai International Airport, Thailand. After a 30-minute drive, we reach our bungalow complex 30 km north of Chiang Mai. Depending on the arrival time, we may visit one of the local markets with a variety of exotic fruits and dishes. Then it's time for the first beer and we can look forward to the upcoming welcome BBQ. Overnight stay will be in one of our 9 comfortable rooms.
Day 2: Day trip around Mae Malai
After a good breakfast, everyone picks up their motorcycle and off we go. To get used to the enduro and the Thai traffic, we will take a day tour in our area. On narrow winding asphalt roads and gravel roads, we enjoy the fascinating landscape of Northern Thailand. To have some time for tour preparation, we will be back at our bungalows in the afternoon.
Day 3: Mae Malai - Chiang Rai
Today we follow Highway 107, which leads to the small town of Phrao, where we will have lunch. After that, we continue through the mountains of Northern Thailand. We will pass some remote mountain villages and master the first river crossings. In the late afternoon, we will arrive in Chiang Rai. Tonight we will spend the night in a comfortable city hotel near the night bazaar.
Day 4: Chiang Rai – Huay Xai (Laos)
For the first two hours we drive on paved roads to the 'Golden Triangle', which is famous for its former opium production. We follow the Mekong River for another 50 km downstream to Chiang Khong, the 'Gateway to Indochina' and the border town to Laos. After completing border formalities on the Thai side, we cross the Mekong with our motorcycles on a bridge. Once on the other side, we enter Laos. We spend the rest of the day in the border town of Huay Xai. Those who wish can visit ancient temples, stroll through local markets, or enjoy a relaxing massage before we have dinner by the riverside in a restaurant.
Day 5: Huay Xai - Packbeng
Today we have one of the longest off-road stages of the tour ahead of us. We drive through several mountain villages where children wave at the roadside. No matter where we stop, we are curiously eyed by the villagers. It takes us almost the whole day to cover the 150 km to Packbeng. The village is located right on the Mekong and is a place where travelers spend the night on their boats on the way from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang. During the day it is a ghost town and only comes to life in the evening. It always reminds me of a pirate cove. It is a must to visit this place during our Thailand motorcycle tour.
Day 6: Packbeng - Nong Kiew
A small paved road leads 230 km through countless villages over mountains and through northern Laos to Nong Kiaw. After arriving at a small resort right on the banks of the Nam Ou River, we can enjoy the sunset with a drink and wind down the day.
Day 7 & 8: Nong Kiew - Luang Praban
Today is halfway through our Thailand motorcycle trip. We start with a boat ride on the 'Nam Ou' River for the day. If time permits, we will visit a nearby cave that provided shelter for the local population during the Vietnam War. Those who need some exercise in the afternoon can reach a viewpoint on a short hike, where they will have a fantastic view. On the eighth day of our motorcycle trip, we will ride through fantastic valleys towards Luang Prabang. Early in the afternoon, we will reach our comfortable guesthouse, which is located right on the banks of the Kan River. After dinner, you can visit the night market of Luang Prabang or simply spend your time at your own leisure.
Day 9: Luang Prabang
The old town of Luang Prabang was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Time to take your laundry to the cleaner and do some shopping. Half a day will be taken up by a tour to one of the most beautiful waterfalls - one of the most beautiful that Asia has to offer. Back in Luang Prabang, there is still plenty to see, such as the temple complex 'Wat Phousi' or you can simply relax in a café. We will enjoy the evening at one of the many restaurants on the banks of the Mekong River.
Day 10: Luang Prabang - Tung Chang (Thailand)
Today we ride on one of the most beautiful stages of our tour back to Thailand. A few river crossings, past remote mountain villages and untouched jungle, just everything that makes for a good enduro travel day. The entry into Thailand is quick, and we will reach the small town of Tung Chang in the late afternoon.
Day 11 & 12: Tung Chang - Phayao - Chiang Dao
Another day with super motorcycle routes. Winding paved mountain roads lead us to the town of Phayao, which is located by a beautiful lake. If you like fish, you are exactly right here. Many restaurants sell fresh fish in various preparations. Also on the next day, countless curves with hardly any traffic await us until we reach Chiang Dao. After arriving in Chiang Dao, we will visit one of the natural hot springs where we can relax in one of the hot water pools.
Day 13 & 14: Chiang Dao - Mae Malai - Chiang Mai
After visiting an elephant camp, we will experience another exciting day off-road and ride through the hilly north of Thailand. Our goal for today is our base camp in Mae Malai. The last day of our motorcycle trip through Thailand has come, and after a hearty breakfast, we will transfer to the airport, or those who wish can also extend their stay for a few days of beach vacation in Thailand.
